By now, most of you have probably seen the story from Paste magazine highlighting 12 must-listen bands from the great state of cornfields and fried fair food. There are things we agree with ("...equidistant from both the hipsters on the East Coast and the glamour pros on the West Coast, Iowa is freed to sound like anything and everything") and things we don't we don't agree with ("Aside from Slipknot, there hasn't been a huge band to come out of the Hawkeye State yet—though William Elliott Whitmore and Greg Brown both call it home"). C'mon! Tons of our musicians make it past the city limits to put on shows for their fans in faraway places. Either way, it's good that national pubs are starting to see what a breeding ground Iowa is for fan-freakin'-tastic music.
I could name 20 other bands that deserve to be on that list, but for now, let's send out a big congratulations to those who made Paste's list: Annalibera, Christopher the Conquered, Dylan Sires and Neighbors, Gloom Balloon, Imperfekt, Land of Blood and Sunshine, Maxilla Blue, Mumford's, River Monks, Tires, Trouble Lights, Twins, and (bonus artist) William Elliott Whitmore.
While we've been telling you to give these guys a listen for years now (aside from a few—Paste gifted me with some great suggestions, as well), you've got a national publication telling you to do the same. So do it!
